February 2025 - An Exploration Of Storytelling Through Costume

In this project we were tasked with designing and making a costume of our own choice. I based my project upon the White Rabbit in Alice in Wonderland, looking at her almost like a showgirl luring Alice into Wonderland.

To do this I drafted and sewed a corset, then used a variety of dying techniques to age and detail the velvet fabric. On top of this I made a short crinoline which I covered in cogs. These cogs were meant to represent the feeling of time being suspended, as well as being a reference to the watch the rabbit carries. The rest of the costume was sourced - including the ears that I had made and recycled from a previous project.

We then had the privilege of working with Christa Holka in order to photograph our costumes on our lovely models!
